MY PROFILE

Jane Cole is a glass artist working from her home glass studio in Partridge Green, West Sussex.

Jane graduated with a BA Honours degree in 3-Dimensional design, specialising in blown and kiln-formed glass with a supporting study of printed textiles in 1987 from West Surrey College of Art & Design, Farnham, Surrey.

Following graduation, Jane concentrated on creating kiln-formed and fused glass projects, selling through galleries, exhibitions and art fairs for many years throughout the UK. She was also, at this time, a member of the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen. In 2006 Jane had her daughter Kathryn and took a break from glassmaking to concentrate on parenthood.

However, in 2018 the creative urge prompted Jane to expand her skills once more and to learn the art of flameworking glass. This process involves heating glass to a molten state with a dual fuel gas torch, shaping and colouring glass by hand, tools, moulds and gravity while the glass is hot and fluid. Once the shape and design is complete every piece is then annealed in a kiln to de-stress the glass and return it to room temperature. Jane now produces a unique range of flameworked earrings, pendants, necklaces and glass decorative items for the home and garden. She uses coloured effetre glass rod, enamels, frits and re-cycled window glass in her creations.
